May 8: Germany surrenders. It was all over with Nazis in 1945. Germans revealed surrender to Western Allies.

On the 8th of May in 1945, Nazi-Germany signed an unconditional surrender to the Allied forces of Great Britain, United States of America (USA), and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Thus, the war in Europe ended. However, war continued in Asia.

Adolph Hitler was believed to have committed suicide one week earlier when he finally realized that his forces could not win the war.

In Asia, the war continued between the Allied forces and Japan for another four months, until Japan also surrendered and the Second World War was finally over.

This was the headline in the Daily Mail, a popular British newspaper, announcing the German surrender. It marked the end of World War II in Europe ("VE" stands for "Victory in Europe"). But in other parts of the world the war was to continue until VP Day (Victory in the Pacific) three months later.
