June 10: During the witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts (USA), Bridget Bishop is hanged in 1692, for "certain Detestable Arts called Witchcraft and Sorceries" in Gallows Hill.

The trials of the population of Salem, in the state of colonial Massachusetts, were a series of hearings and trials of people accused of witchcraft and sorcery. The most resonant trials were conducted between February 1692 and May 1693.

Failures of trials resulted in violent killings of twenty people, mostly women. The most infamous trials were conducted by the court of Oyer and Terminer in Salem Town.

Bridget Bishop, 60 years old, was the first person executed for witchcraft during the Salem witch trials in June 10th1692. In all, 72 persons accused and executed were recorded, mostly women.

Bridget was accused by having one or several taverns where cards were played and men drank alcohol. Besides, she dressed provocatively, as the Puritan customs of the time, and was very outgoing, "without mincing words."
